Deaf man unaware of flat fire

A DEAF man was not aware of a fire in his flat because he could not hear the alarms. The 92-year-old, who lives in Durham Court, Leatherhead, was not aware of cooking burning in his kitchen until his whole home began to fill with smoke. Firefighters from Leatherhead fire station rushed to the scene and rescued the man from his house and brought the fire under control at around 9.15 last night.
