A car passenger has described his shock at seeing a van "engulfed in flames" on the M23 near
Gatwick Airport last night.
Ben Cornelius, 28, was on his way home to Horsham when he saw the vehicle burst into flames.
The van was travelling on the M23 southbound between Junction 8 and 9 [Gatwick Airport] when the fire started. The incident forced emergency services to close lanes one and two as well as the hard shoulder.
Mr Cornelius described the incident as "quite scary"...
